Beastie Boys Will Not Make New Music After MCA’s Death

Currently the Beastie Boys are in court with Monster Energy Drink, who used one of their songs without their permission, and testimony during the proceedings has revealed that following the death of Adam “MCA” Yauch in 2012, they will no longer be making new music.

After his passing, it was found Yauch’s will prohibited the use of Beastie Boys music in advertisements, and so Michael “Mike D” Diamond and Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz have been suing Monster for copyright infringement.

Pitchfork has revealed that in testimony last week, Mike D stated the following:

We have not been able to tour since MCA, Adam Yauch, died. We can’t make new music.

The group also settled a similar matter with Goldieblox , who used the Beastie Boys song “Girls” in one of its advertisements, this spring. Here’s hoping commercial America respects the hip hop legends and keeps their hands off their music in the future.
