Erasure is an English synthpop duo that consists of Andy Bell (singer/songwriter) and Vince Clarke (keyboardist). They formed Erasure in London, England and entered the music scene in 1985. Their debut single was titled “Who Need Love Like That.” Their single “Sometimes” that was released shortly after, helped the duo establish a spot on the UK Singles Chart. Erasure then became one of the most successful artists of the 1980s and 1990s.
From the beginning to around 2007, Erasure had achieved 24 consecutive Top 40 hits in the UK, and three Top 20 hits in the US on the Billboard 100. The hits consisted of their songs “A Little Respect,” “Chains of Love,” and “Always.” By the year 2009, 35 out of their 45 singles had made the UK Top 40 chart, with 17 of them breaking Top 10.
The duo is most popular in the UK due to the fact it is their homeland. However, with Erasure’s mass success, they are also famous in many other areas around the world including Argentina, Chile, Peru, Germany, Denmark, and Sweden. Worldwide, Erasure has sold over 25 million albums.
