Steve Perry parted from rock band, Journey, 19 years ago and was incognito in the music scene until recently. His replacement, Arnel Pineda, is willing to leave the band and give Perry is spot back.
On May 25, at the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul, Minnesota, Steve Perry took the stage and stole the show when he performed with Eels. After singing two classic Journey songs and an original Eels song, everyone was talking about the return of Perry.
It has been rumored that Pineda would leave Journey back in February, but they were quickly shot down and cleared up. However, he might actually part ways with Journey, that is only if Perry wants his singer position again. On Twitter, Pineda replied to fans commentary saying “He can take over too. It’s his righteous place anyway.. Wanna see them happy together.” There were a series of tweets that went back and forth between Pineda and fans. One even commented on his modesty saying, “Refreshing to see your humble attitude. Rare these days.”
There is no palpable confirmation on Perry’s return, only a few tweets that Pineda is willing to let go of being Journey’s vocalist. However, Perry told The Pulse of Radio, “What a great band we once were,” he said.
“What a great band. I think the older I get, the more I’m able to look back at the forest now, ’cause I certainly walked out of the trees. I think everybody was just following their heart and their nose and following that lead. Just doing what we do. We’re a band. We record, we rock, we instinctually reach for what we believe’s a good idea — and argue about stuff, agree, disagree and move forward. And we were just crankin’.”
