LISTEN: The Neighbourhood Releases New Track “Jealousy”

California indie-rockers The Neighbourhood, best known for their cozy-sounding hit “Sweater Weather,” share their completely revamped sound on their newest release, “Jealousy.” “Jealousy,” the fourth song off of The Neighbourhood’s upcoming mixtape project “#000000 & #FFFFFF,” features rappers Casey Veggies and 100s, and juxtaposes the soft-rock sound of songs like “Sweater Weather” against a gritty, hip-hop base.

The Neighbourhood has already released three songs from “#000000 & #FFFFFF”: “Silver,” “Unfair,” and “Lurk.” The mixtape promises to preserve the band’s carefully-maintained monochrome aesthetic (#000000 and #FFFFFF are the HTML codes for black and white, and the “Lurk” music video was pointedly colorless).

On the inspiration for the upcoming mixtape, frontman Jesse Rutherford said:

“#000000 & #FFFFFF is a diary of songs that are inspired by our thoughts while on the road. It exposes our anxiety, rejoices in our achievement and expresses our ability to create whatever the fuck we want. It’s our freedom to explore popular music as we know it. It’s not us as a band… it’s us as a sound.

The Neighbourhood will continue touring the U.S. until August, when they’ll travel to Europe to make a brief foray into the festival circuit, including Belgium’s Pukkelpop and the U.K.’s Reading & Leeds Festival.

Stay tuned for an official announcement about the release date for “#000000 & #FFFFFF.” And for now, listen to “Jealousy” below:
