Failure Is Working On a New Album

Los Angeles-based alt rock band Failure are working on a new album, their first studio album since 1996.

Alternative Nation did an interview with the Ken Andrews, one-third of Failure. The other two members of the band are Greg Edwards and Kellii Scott. In it, Andrew talks about their experiences touring with Tool and playing at Cinquanta, the 50th birthday party for Maynard James Keenan, along with giving more information about their music from the 1990s and the upcoming material.

After forming in the early ’90s and recording three full-length records, Failure disbanded in 1997. Right now, Failure is on headlining tour, the Tree of Stars Tour, without an opening band. They also released a new song, “Come Crashing,” in May.

The band is only three or four songs into recording the forthcoming album. In the interview, Andrews said,

I think our intent is for it to be the fourth Failure record in terms of trying to follow up Fantastic Planet, like a logical next step after that record…I actually think, one thing that’s kind of cool, doing this tour and playing songs as a trio it’s definitely having an impact on how I’m viewing the new album looking forward. I think I wanna go a little bit more stripped.

To elaborate on that:

Stripped down just in terms of layers and tracks. Yeah. Cuz I’m really enjoying the trio live. I think it’s really cool. And there’s something about it that.. it almost let’s our “sound” breathe easier. But when you’re in the studio it’s so tempting to just do a lot of layers, coming up with better parts essentially. So I hope our goal is to make a satisfying follow up to Fantastic Planet. It will up to our listeners to decide whether or not we achieve that.
