The lawsuit between hip-hoppers Beastie Boys and corporation Monster Energy Drink over the use of their music will be headed to court this coming Tuesday.
After the passing of founding member Adam Yauch in 2012, his will prohibited the use of Beastie Boys songs in advertisements. The bold mood has led to some complicationsm such as their latest skirmish with Monster Energy Drink who they intend to take to court for illegally using their music. Adam Horovitz, other member of the Beastie Boys, will be taking the stand at the Thurgood Marshall United States Courthouse in New York City.The lawsuit claimed that their music and likeness were used in various promotional videos for an event called Ruckus in the Rockies without their consent, and the band are seeking $150,000 in damages for each infringement.
This isn’t the first issue the Beastie Boys have taken with the liberal use of their classics. Toy company Goldieblox used the bands famous track, “Girls”, in what they claim was a parody of the “highly sexist song”. Beastie Boys threatened the company with copyright infringement, and eventually settled for a case dismissed.
