The anticipation of hip hop king, Jay Z, and legendary punk rocker, Jack White’s, collaboration may never be satisfied.
In exclusive interviews with Rolling Stone and Consequence of Sound, White exposes many insights into his very private world. One of them being that Jay Z doesn’t like the songs they have been working on. Since 2010, and rumors of Kanye West joining in, the track “Ray Bans,” is still not finished, and may never reach completion. White notes, “I’m not sure he liked them.”
White also touches on many other aspects of his life dealing with music and beyond. He explains his inspiration for his second studio album, Lazaretto, and how he “talked” to his younger self through old short stories he had written to create it. White also confesses to being displeased by today’s audiences. “People can’t clap anymore, because they’ve got a fucking texting thing in their fucking hand, and probably a drink, too… I let the crowd tell me what to do. There’s no set list. I’m not just saying the same things I said in Cleveland last night. If they can’t give me that energy back? Maybe I’m wasting my time.”
Although we may never get the chance to hear the collusion of White and Jay Z, Lazaretto will be released in a little less than three weeks June 10th.
