Beloved Asheville record store Harvest Records has announced plans for its 10th birthday party. This isn’t any old balloons-and-cake birthday, though. Harvest has put together a three-day summer music festival, Transfigurations II, with a lineup that includes The Clean, Mudhoney, Lee Fields & The Expressions, Angel Olsen, and more. Transfigurations II will take place in music venues all over Asheville from August 28-30.
Transfigurations I, the 2009 prequel to Transfigurations II, confirmed Harvest Records’ position as one of the Asheville’s music community’s most vital spaces. Over the last decade, Harvest has transformed from a simple record shop into a combined record shop/indie record label/music venue, and with Transfigurations II, its founders intend to celebrate that growth.
Harvest founders Matt Schnable and Mark Capon dreamed of opening their own record store even back when they were still in college. On their website, they write, “The idea was consistent. Open a record shop, yes, of course..but don’t let it stop there. Create a space dedicated to the discovery of music, the exchange of ideas, a place for broader discussions about community.” In August 2004, the dream became a reality, and Harvest Records was born.
With Transfigurations II, Harvest celebrates the community they’ve helped create in Asheville as well as the connections they’ve made further afield in the independent music world. Schnable and Capon explain the mission of the festival as follows:
We have curated the lineup of artists to reflect the community’s taste as well as our own. Some artists we’ve worshipped for years, some are new favorites; some we’ve booked in town multiple times, some have released records on our label, some are new to the fold, but all of them have had a place on our shelves. We have supported them and they us.
Three-day passes can be purchased on the Harvest Records website starting Friday, May 23 at 10 AM EST. Single-day passes will be available in June. Check out the full lineup below.
