Lily Rose Beatrice Cooper, professionally known as Lily Allen, is an English singer/songwriter and actress. She is the daughter of Keith Allen (actor, author, broadcaster, artist, musician, comedian) and Alison Owen (film producer). When she was 15, she left school and concentrated on improving her performing and compositional skills. In 2005, Allen released some of her recordings on MySpace. Publicity from the recordings lead to airplay on BBC Radio 1 and a contract with Regal Recordings.
Her first mainstream single, “Smile,” was released in 2006 and reached number one on the UK Singles Chart. Her debut album Alright, Still was released the same year and sold over 2.6 million copies around the world. The success of her debut album led to nominations at the Grammy Awards, BRIT Awards and MTV Video Music Awards. Her second studio album, It’s Not Me, It’s You, was released in 2009. The leading hit singles were “The Fear” and “Fuck You.” The album debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and the Australian ARIA Charts.
In 2009, Allen announced a hiatus from her music and in 2010, she opened a fashion clothing store, Lucy in Disguise (London), with her sister Sarah. In 2013, Allen announced her third studio album, Sheezus, along with the video for the single “Hard Out Here.” The album was released on May 5, 2014.
