Even if the band’s name doesn’t instantly ring any bells, you’ll likely recognize the song “Cop Killer”. Yes, this is the outfit behind the bane of early 90s airwaves – a song controversial enough to receive a presidential condemnation.
Body Count grew out of Ice T’s love of heavy metal. Sure, it’s not exactly normal for a rapper to front a metal outfit, but Body Count made it work. Vicious, politically charged lyrics made them one of the most inflammatory acts of their day. The late 90s and early 00’s saw the deaths of three original members, which understandably banked some creative fires, and their last album was released in 2006.
But you can’t keep something this potent down forever. They’re back – Ice T released “Talk Shit Get Shot” on a recent episode of his “Final Level” podcast. Check it out below, song starts at the 34 minute mark.
