Tonight Dave Navarro and Chad Smith will join a handful of legendary musicians onstage to honor Ozzy Osbourne and Jeff Greenberg at the 10th Anniversary MusiCares MAP Fund benefit concert. The event, held at LA’s Club Nokia, kicks off at 8pm PST.
MusiCares had been founded in 1989, by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, to help assist musicians in their financial needs and such medical issues as addiction recovery. At the event Osbourne will be recognized for his dedication in helping musicians throughout their recovery process, and presented the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award by Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh. Playing alongside Osbourne’s touring band, which features Slash, will be Navarro and Billy Morrison, best-known for his work as Billy Idol’s guitarist.
For his “unconditional friendship and dedication to the mission and goals of the organization,” Greenberg, owner and CEO of The Village studios, will receive the MusiCares From the Heart Award, which will be presented by comedian Craig Ferguson.
Also performing at the show will be Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, with singer/songwriter Beth Hart, as well as Metallica and Keb’ Mo’. Mix Master Mike will be DJ’ing the event, in memoriam of DJ AM, and actor Dax Shepard will be hosting the event.
All proceeds from tonight’s event will directly benefit the MusiCares MAP Fund.
And be sure to catch Slash this summer as he supports Aerosmith on their international tour, or if you happen to be in Europe, see Black Sabbath at either Hellfest or the British Summer Time Festival. Navarro also just played at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards show, where Black Sabbath received Album of the Year for their latest album, 13.
