In the midst of a spring tour, and just a few months after the release of their debut album, enigmatic band ††† (Crosses) have released a very interesting video for their track, “Telepathy”. With colorful, trippy visuals and a subtle electronic beat that corresponds, the trio seems ready for more widespread indietronica success.
“Telepathy” comes from the band’s self-titled debut album, and was posted on YouTube by Deftones singer and ††† member Chino Moreno. It’s a daring and creatively constructed video, featuring bright colors and a variety of interesting images, many of them close-up and hard to describe. Some of the colorful images almost look like cells gyrating and moving underneath a microscope, while other parts of the video look like they feature close-up visuals of eyeballs and shots of disco balls revolving in a sea of color. At times, a face painted with glow-in-the-dark makeup sings parts of the track, and at other times, dancers in elaborate costumes that somewhat resemble mannequins put on a show in a mock dressing room.
Often referred to as a “witch house” band, ††† (Crosses) seem to channel a little bit of everything. Sometimes they sound electronica, other times they sound like they take their influences from trip hop, and still other times, you might think of them as a shoegaze band. But it’s hard to argue with the fact that they’re modern, they’re daring and they’re not afraid to try interesting stylistic elements, especially in their videos. After releasing two EPs, in 2011 and 2012, they moved onto a full-length album this year, and have quietly been making the rounds of some of the smaller festivals in the process.
