The classic New Orleans Essence Festival continues to take shape. A wave of headliners has been announced. Superstars like Prince, The Roots, and Mary J. Blige are all slated to appear. Check below for a complete list.
The Essence Fest has gone places. It had its start in 1995 as a one-off event, and has since grown into the largest annual celebration of African-American music and culture in the United States. Past headliners include Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, and Kanye West. Plenty of promise, and this year’s lineup is set to deliver in full.
Ageless wonder Prince will be making a return visit to the Fest. Joining him are household names like Lionel Richie and Erykah Badu. Legendary guitarist and recent Daft Punk collaborator Nile Rodgers will also be on hand, as will Jill Scott, a three-time Grammy winner and all-round renaissance woman. To get to the point: it’s going to be huge. Essence Fest kicks off in just another couple of months.
