4Knots Fest Announces 2014 Lineup Including The Julie Ruin, Speedy Ortiz and Those Darlins

4Knots Fest has announced an initial 2014 lineup for their music festival happening on July 12. The event will be happening at South Street Seaport from 1 to 8pm rain or shine.

This year marks the 4th anniversary of the festival. The festival is free for all, open to all ages, and will be taking place outdoors. According to blogs.villagevoice.com, more artists will be announced in the coming weeks and their website will profile each group in the remaining time leading up to the festival.

The 4Knots Music Festival has evolved as replacement for the Siren Music Festival which ended in 2010. The Siren Music Festival was an annual summertime outdoors concert head in Coney Island and started in 2001. According to reports it ended based on a decision to take a new approach the event and introduce the festival in a new location.

According to The Village Voice, the 4Knots Music Festival was named after “the speed of the waves as they meet at the Seaport in New York’s East River”. In tradition with the festival that it has replaced, The 4Knots Music Festival aims to create an environment for artists to showcase their work and for fans to come together and enjoy the music. Many consider the event to be a show case for up-and-coming artists.
