“Father Sister Berzerker” is yet another weird and wonderful track from Tobacco, the third single from his upcoming Ghostly LP Ultima II Massage via FADER. Described as a “snake synth charmer”, the Pennsylvanian native has always stirred things up with his imaginative approach to electronica, especially popular with his other outfit, Black Moth Super Rainbow. The artist maintains with the Tobacco project, he makes a conscious effort to suppress the pop urges that we hear on BMSR, and instead, created a work which as he says”might be my most purposely difficult album yet, but I promise if you let it in, it can fuck you up.” The four minute banger begins with a fuzzy, distorted synth over a 4/4 kick beat that seems to be untethered to any sort of concept until chimes and other sounds come in. We can hear very clearly how Tobacco went back to the cassette decks and other analog tools along with his vocoder and blown rhythms. This gem in the comment sections on the track definitely hit the nail on the head: “If Bob Ross painted a picture on shrooms it would look like this sounds”.

Following the first single Tobacco dropped in March, “Eruption”, was promptly followed by second track, “Streaker”, which was accompanied by a oddly frightening NSFW video in April. Tobacco will be releasing his forthcoming album, Ultima II Massage, in May. Fans can also catch Tobacco at the 2014 Austin Psych Fest this May.
