Prepare for new music. White Sea is Morgan Kibby, a touring member of M83, one of many disturbingly successful French electronic outfits (we have no idea how that keeps happening). Kibby is also a well-established solo artist in her own right, and we’re about to hear the latest. In Cold Blood is due out in less than a month.
White Sea’s been catching attention for some time now. Early teasers from the upcoming album included opener “They Don’t Know” and “Prague”. Both were epic studies of electronica savvy that caught near-universal acclaim. It’s easy to see why – White Sea’s work is odd, but gorgeous. Check out the music video for “They Don’t Know” if you want an illustration of that combo. Warning: it’s NSFW, but in an artistic way.
Expect some very introspective material from In Cold Blood. Kibby has stated that the album shaped up to be extremely “self-reflective”, and was partly influenced by both other musicians (she named Prince and Donna Summers), but also film.
