Reality Grey – Define Redemption

Reality Grey Is A Band To Listen For

There isn’t a ton out there about Reality Grey (at least in the American English internet world), but here’s the background: they are five average guys who seemed to have come out of nowhere. Define Redemption, however, just put them squarely on the online map. Started in 2004, Italian metal band Reality Grey is now on their second full-length album and fourth release to date.

The band consists of these first name wonders; Tommaso Winter Montenegro (Tommy) is vocals, Alessandro Giustino (Alex) is on bass with both Alberto Pinto (Albo) and Antonello Addabbo (Anto) on guitars and Claudio Grind keeping it alive on drums.

Entering the scene as a melodic death metal band and now promoting themselves as modern death metal (a good move in branding) Reality Grey’s newest release is solid. Each track is its own story. Each song has a beginning, middle and end, whatever these guys need redeeming for, they might have made it themselves. If they know what it is. That is the question, isn’t it?

It’s always awesome when a group of musicians has a respectable amount of talent and understanding of showmanship. To be able to play, sing and produce a full length album is the primary step to recording. But to be able to work within each member’s range and make each song pronounce its full quality is the quintessential yellow brick road of album and band production. It is an understated fact that good music is more than tuning to the right key or singing at the right pitch– it’s about how it all blends in the final product.

The vocals are amazing and empower the music. The musicianship and production quality is great. In a time where metal has branched into so many genres and blended different elements to create new hybrids of heavy music, Reality Grey is a solid component to bringing back the sound of metal; modern, death, melodic or otherwise. These guys are a new wave of timeless music.

From “Ascension Lapse” to the title and final track “Define Redemption,” each song is a welcoming new experience from a new favorite. “Define Redemption” is the radio release for the album and, with a simple video to boot, it’s easy to see and hear why. The haunting melodies of “Save Your Last Breath” are shadows of the hopeless divide of what is to… what? Define it.
