To most hip hop heads, MC means, “move the crowd,” and that’s exactly what Kid Cudi did on the main Coachella stage on Saturday. Talking to the crowd and really getting them involved really made people “feel” what they were watching. And that is just half of the story.
By this point the Coachella crowd can pretty much depend on there being guest appearances at these performances and Kid Cudi’s was no different. Performing his song “Red Eye” with Haim towards the middle of his set, whom he collaborated with on their 2013 EP Days Are Gone, but most onlookers seemed stunned, just standing around and watching without participating. At the end when MGMT joined Cudi for “Pursuit Of Happiness” now that was a different story. The crowd went crazy and as the Daily Bulletin put it, “lost it,” when the song transitioned into a remix.
Other surprises included the David Guetta song “Memories” minus Guetta and a remixed version of “Day n’ Nite.” King Chip helped him out on the song “Just What I Am,” and at one point Kid Cudi said, “… this whole Coachella (expletive) has been an amazing experience,” saying from his view it looked like there were about 40,000 people in the audience.
He ended by saying, “I feel blessed to be here.”
A Huntington Beach native, Shawn Olson, 21, was quoted by the Daily Bulletin as saying that he enjoyed the way Cudi had the audience in his hand with his talking and music.
