We had to wait six years for Morning Phase, Beck’s eleventh studio album. Lucky us, he seems bent on making up for lost time, and has teased an end-of-the-year due date for his next album.
It’s early days for this one, but keep your fingers crossed. In some ways it’s not too surprising – Beck’s latest albums were intended to be spiritual successors to some of his early work. Morning Phase, with its haunting, reflective tone, followed up on 2002’s Sea Change. This next one is apparently going to be a bit more “boisterous”. Only appropriate given that its parent work is Modern Guilt, a 2008 tour de force that spawned muscular singles like “Gamma Ray” and “Youthless”.
Not only that but, if you’ve been keeping tabs on the scientologist songster, he’s been kicking songs out like mad. Singles “Defriended”, “Won’t be Long”, and “Gimme” were all recent releases. At this point all we can really do is hang on and hope the pace continues.
