Spring is in the air, it’s almost Easter – there’s no better time for new beginnings. Wax Trax! Records should agree, as the once-defunct indie label is roaring back to life. The label is set to reactivate this Summer, and plans to celebrate the occasion with the release of a special 12″ single.
Wax Trax! Records was bought in 1992 after filing for bankruptcy, but not before establishing itself as one of the most influential independent labels of the 80s. Bands that played under the Wax Trax! logo included Ministry, KMFDM, My Life with the Thrill Kill Cult, and Sister Machine Gun. Quite a list, and it’s apparently set to start growing again.
Julia Nash, daughter of co-founder Jim Nash, is behind the revival. In one of the company’s earlier blog posts, she shed some light on future plans for Wax Trax!:
“What will happen as we move forward? As long as we’re having fun we will keep at it. We hope you will join us for the ride. WAX TRAX! will most likely focus primarily on limited vinyl pressings and special projects from new as well as established artists within the Wax Trax! family. This has to be a labor of love, and if we don’t feel a connection with the project, it isn’t going to happen.”
They’ve certainly followed that promise to the letter for their first release. “TKO Mindfuck” comes courtesy of Cocksure, a new band containing Wax Trax! veteran Chris Connelly (Ministry, Revolting Cocks) and Jason Novak (Acumen Nation). Expect that one to drop mid-June.
