In the continued “surprise guest appearance” fashion that the Coachella Festival has been blessing their attendants with all weekend long, Arcade Fire treated the crowd to a special gift, a performance by none other than Blondie’s front woman, Debbie Harry.
Closing the epic weekend with a just as epic collaboration, Debbie and Régine Chassagne sang duet on Blondie’s 1979 smash hit “Heart of Glass.” Making the crowd feel like they were at a Blondie concert, Debbie yelled out to the audience, “Cruise on, motherfuckers.” Later she helped out by adding vocals to Arcade Fire’s “Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains).
Afterwards Debbie was quoted saying, “It was amazing to be at Coachella and infinitely as exciting to be appearing with Arcade Fire.”
With a career spanning four decades, and selling over 40 million albums worldwide, Blondie was inducted into the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. Beginning as a Lower East Side new wave and punk band, Blondie expanded to become innovators of fashion and mainstream dance music. Adding elements of disco, pop,and reggae, Blondie became the first artists to have a number one single “Rapture,” featuring rap. After leaving the band in 1982 to pursue a solo career, Debbie reunited with the band in 1997 which lead to 1999’s number one single “Maria, exactly 20 years after their first number one single.
As the band celebrates their 40th Anniversary with their tenth studio album scheduled to be released this year, Ghosts of Download, Blondie is preparing for a big announcement next week, so stay tuned.
