Cheap Trick is an American rock band from Rockford, Illinois, that formed in 1973. Cheap Trick spent their early days touring around the state and performing at almost every state university in Illinois. In 1976, Cheap Trick signed with Epic Records releasing their first self-titled debut album within the next year. The album had moderate success in the U.S., but became super popular in Japan. Due to the success overseas, the album went gold shortly upon its release. In 2007, the Illinois Senate passed a resolution designating April 1,as Cheap Trick Day in the state.

Cheap Trick’s most well known hits are “Surrender,” “I Want You to Want Me,” “Dream Police” and “The Flame.” With more than 5,000 performances, 20 million records sold, 29 movie soundtracks and 40 gold and platinum recording awards, the band was honored in October 2007 by the Chicago Chapter of NARAS (National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences) for their contributions to the music industry. They have been ranked No. 25 in VH1’s list of the 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock.

Cheap Trick’s most current release, The Latest, is the group’s sixth studio album. In 2011,  Cheap Trick announced plans to open a restaurant/music/museum venue in historic Motor Row in South Loop Chicago. Cheap Trick was the supporting act for famous rock band Aerosmith on their Global Warming Tour.
