The remaining members of GWAR and Slave Pit Inc. released a heartfelt video announcing the foundation and the first item on the agenda is to finance a memorial monument to pay respect to Brockie.
Sad news struck the metal world when Dave Brockie (the unique and awesome Oderus Urungus) was found dead on his house in Richmond, VA. The rest of the band wants to preserve his legacy and “share his brilliant works with the world”, so now they proudly announce the creation of The Dave Brockie Foundation.
In the spirit of the multifaceted Brockie the charity will seek to support all types of arts including music, visual images, letters and performing arts.
It will endeavor to encourage promising talents, as well as preserving the legacy of Dave’s body of works. It intends to be a support system to those who have dedicated their lives in pursuit of creativity. The Dave Brockie Foundation will be a resource for artists in the fields of music, film, literature and all visual arts who cannot find funding through mainstream channels
The organization will also strive to preserve all the art that came from the lead singer which includes original images, recordings and literature, all to be available for the general public in the future
GWAR also announced recently that, despite the tragic news and in a ‘celebrate life’ spirit, the annual GWAR-B-Q is still on. The date will be August 16th and a public memorial service in honor of Oderus will be held the day before.
