The ineffable and almighty Roots are at it again, announcing a new album release as well as a brand new single!

The Roots have shared exciting news that a new album, ….And Then You Shoot Your Cousin , is set for release on Def Jam Records this May 13th. Plus, they gave us a taste with their newest track, “When the People Cheer”, a laid-back piano tune with thoughtful lyrics and a groovy female hook to round it off (listen below!). The album will be the follow up to their 2011 album, Undun, and one of their 11 solo albums. The prolific group have been hard at work recently, most notedly in their slot for Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show.
The album release will give fans time to dig in before they hold their annual Roots Picnic on May 31st. The group will be splitting the event into two sets, one of their own music and then one as the backing band for Snoop Dogg. The event will be held at the Festival Pier a Penn’s Landing, Philadelphia, and the lineup features other exciting names such as A$AP Ferg, AraabMuzik, Janelle Monaé, and others. Get your eyes and ears ready for these guys!
