Jurassic 5 will be bringing their Word of Mouth Reunion Tour to Philadelphia on July 31st. The alternative hip hop group reunited in 2013 for a Coachella set and toured internationally for a bit, but now they are headed out on a US tour this summer! The tour also marks the 20th anniversary of the group, who formed in 1993.
In 2007, after the release of their 4th studio album, Jurassic 5 decided to call it quits due to “musical differences.” That was the first time the group released an album as a quintet, with Cut Chemist having left the ensemble in 2006 to pursue a solo career. Their 2013 performance at Coachella not only marked the return of Jurassic 5, but also the return of Cut Chemist.
Another act we haven’t heard from in a while, Dilated Peoples, will be opening for Jurassic 5. Dilated Peoples are set to release their fifth album, the trio’s first since 2006’s 20/20. They will release their upcoming album, Directors of Photography, later this year. Of the new release, they’ve stated that they’re “trying to walk a fine line between keeping it classic and pushing it forward,” acknowledging that a lot has changed since they first got started. Despite not having put out an album since 2006, the trio have consistently worked together on each other’s side projects. Which is great because “the live chemistry and the working chemistry is there.”
Jurassic 5 are set to perform at the River Stage at Great Plaza down at Penn’s Landing, joining an already impressive summer lineup for the outdoor venue. Get your tickets now for the 7/31 show!
