New Orleans metal band Eyehategod is back with a new track, in advance of the band’s release of its first album in ten years. The album is expected to be out at the end of May through Housecore Records, but the band is giving fans new material a little sooner.
It’s a loud, dark song, fitting for the band that has become one of the most notable names in the category of the “sludge metal” bands formed in New Orleans in the late 80’s. After releasing their first three albums in the early and mid 90’s, and coming out with their fourth in 2000, the group has taken a long hiatus. But for the most part, the main lineup has stayed the same, except for the absence of bassist Joey LaCaze, who died last year.
In advance of the new album, the band is touring California through the end of April. Although they were supposed to play the Kabuto Music Festival in Japan, it was canceled, which forced them to reschedule some of their American tour dates.
True to form, the band’s newest single includes long guitar riffs, heavy screaming vocals by Mike Williams and is metal to the core. But for fans of the now 26-year-old band, they’ll find that Eyehategod’s newest material stays true to its roots. You can listen to the single here.
