Robert DeLong is a American electronic musician based out of Washington. DeLong has a background in drums stemming from his father who was a drummer. In college DeLong studied drums. His equipment and clothing feature an orange “X” logo; this same logo, or a variant of it, is often painted on his face and those of his fans. With his background and influences from a number of indie rock bands, DeLong’s primary genres include house, electronic, electric dance music (EDM) and moombathon. VIBE, MTV and Billboard named him top 2013 Artist To Watch.
DeLong’s first full length album, Just Movement, was released on Glassnote Records in February 2013. The beat of the album has been described by Wired Magazine as merger of “electronic dance music, alt rock, and vocals into tracks that are poppy enough to make you move but dissonant enough to be interesting.” The single “Global Concepts” reached No. 33 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart in early 2013.
In a nutshell, DeLong is a one-man band who uses MIDI interfaces, a full drum set, guitar, drum pads, keyboards, laptops and game controllers. His website characterizes his music as “electronic dance beats with striking melodies and lyrics with emotional heart.” He has performed at large music festivals, including Ultra Music Festival, Coachella, The Governors Ball and SXSW.
