LA-based songstress, Banks, is headed to Underground Arts for a performance this June. Her upcoming tour kicks off in May and includes a few festival stops, including Coachella and Gov Ball. The tour is her first headlining US tour. Most recently, Banks was out touring the world with Canadian R&B sensation The Weeknd.
Growing to prominence after her song was featured in a Victoria’s Secret commercial, Banks (first name Jillian) first started writing music when she was 15. Music became an outlet for her to express herself, saying she “felt very alone and helpless.” She released her first official single, “Before I Ever Met You,” in February 2013. She released her first EP, Fall Over, in March of the same year. Her second EP, London, was released just a few months later in September 2013. The song, “Waiting Game” which was produced by singer/producer SOHN, is featured on that EP. Victoria’s Secret ended up using the song in a holiday commercial, and Banks began to gain some recognition. She was nominated for awards from both BBC and MTV and found her way on several “Artists to Watch” lists.
The debut album is still in the works. Banks says, “If anything, we have too many songs. I don’t feel quite finished yet. I feel like I still have a few more things to let out so that I’ll feel really comfortable and happy with my first album being released, but I’m excited. I’m as close as you can get.” Check out all of the new music Banks has in store for us when she heads to Philly this June.
