Frankie Knuckles Dies at 59

Legendary Chicago house artist Frankie Knuckles passed away today at the age of 59.

The DJ and producer was born in the Bronx as Frankie Warren Knuckles, Jr. He later moved to Chicago, where he became a regular performer at the Warehouse, beginning in 1977, then became known as “The Godfather” of house music. From there, he moved on to DJíng at the Power Plant. He innovated often and influenced club music greatly throughout his career, evolving genre.

Longtime business partner Frederick Dunson reported via email that Knuckles had “died unexpectedly this afternoon at home.” The 59-year-old music legend did have Type II diabetes.

Knuckles was not only a house DJ, but also a producer who worked with music icons such as Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Depeche Mode, Whitney Houston and Pet Shop Boys. He has continued to influence new artists, including DJ Harry and The Hood Internet.
