The Julie Ruin releases a new video for a song originally released last year on their latest album. The four-year-old band is getting ready to embark on a schedule of spring tour dates and the newest video is a single off of the group’s latest album, which came out last year.
It’s a fun lighthearted movie to go with a track that has many of the same features. The video shows the band performing in various locales, mostly alternating between shots of the band’s drummer playing in a grassy field and shots of band member Kathleen Hanna playing in the ocean during high tide. According to Consequence of Sound, Hanna’s husband Adam Horovitz (of the Beastie Boys) shot some of the footage used in the video. One of the best scenes might be the shot of the band member who’s standing in the middle of the creek playing keyboard, clad in yellow overalls. It’s a free-spirited collection of clips and it complements the catchy tune quite well.
The Julie Ruin released its first album Run Fast last September, but frontwoman Kathleen Hanna is a seasoned musician. Hanna was the lead singer of Bikini Kill before she went on to perform in the electronic-influenced band Le Tigre. A major player in the riot grrrl movement, Hanna announced last year that she had been battling a serious case of Lyme Disease, which led to the end of her involvement in Le Tigre. But the feminist-activist and punk icon is now back, releasing new material, and the video for “Just My Kind” has given fans another taste of The Julie Ruin’s musical and visual style.
