LISTEN: Corey Taylor Releases Cover of Dio’s “Rainbow in the Dark”

Slipknot and Stone Sour vocalist Corey Taylor is bringing back Dio’s 1983 track Rainbow in the Dark. The cover is part of a tribute album called Ronnie James Dio: This Is Your Life set to be released April 1st.

Ronnie James Dio: This Is Your Life is Taylor’s tribute to one of the founders of metal. He will be joined by Stone Sour Alums guitarist Christian Martucci and drummer Roy Mayorga as well as bassist Jason Christopher and guitarist Satchel from Steel Panther.

Taylor had high praise for Dio, saying, “Ronnie was the most natural singer I have ever witnessed, he could do anything, hit any note, make any audience lose their minds. He was one of the greatest and I’m so happy I got to see him live. ‘Rainbow in the Dark’ was the first Dio song I really loved to death–just a powerful, high-energy hard rock song that was so good I wished I’d written it. When I was asked to be a part of this album, I knew there was only one track I wanted to record and luckily I got it. I only hope I did it justice. Having had the privilege of meeting Ronnie before he passed, I hope he knows how much I loved him for who and what he was: One of the greatest.”

Ronnie James Dio passed away in 2010; 28 years after founding the band that bears his name. Recently, Dio guitarist Vivian Campbell has been trying to reunite the remaining members for a series of shows.

Besides paying tribute to the heavy metal icon, Taylor has been keeping busy with his original band Stone Sour, last year releasing the second part of their House of Gold and Bones album.
