The exciting summer show announcements continue to roll in. Once again, R5 Productions will be hosting their free music series at Morgan’s Pier. The first, and so far the only, announced show is Merchandise on June 26th. The band hails from Tampa, Florida and has been making music since 2008. The band members were each previously involved in a slew of other projects, playing heavily in the Tampa punk scene, before forming and making music as Merchandise. They recently released a new song entitled “Figured Out,” which will appear on a special Record Store Day compilation. Merchandise will also release their own full-length album later this year, via 4AD. They’ll be bringing along tourmates The Ukiah Drag for the Morgan’s Pier show.
If the music wasn’t encouragement enough, it’s also worth noting a few things about this venue. Morgan’s Pier provides the perfect backdrop for a warm summer night. What better way to enjoy great music than sipping a beer, or Watermelon Ricky, under the Benjamin Franklin bridge? With not one, but two bars at this outdoor oasis, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to entertain yourself in between sets. They also have a pretty impressive food menu for those who plan to arrive earlier in the evening for some pre-show fun.
At this point we are still waiting to hear more scheduled bands, but the folks at R5 have consistently put together an impressive selection. Last year the Pier played host to Pissed Jeans, We Were Promised Jetpacks, Work Drugs, JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists and more. And past years have included performances from Free Energy, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Jukebox the Ghost, and Bleeding Rainbow. Stay tuned for more announcements!
