Radio 104.5 have announced their highly anticipated Summer Block Party schedule! The free concert series will kick off on May 3rd and will once again feature one event every month until September. Radio 104.5 says this is just the first wave of announcements, but we expect another 8 more acts will be announced at some point. (We’ll update this post when more information becomes available.) With another year of exciting shows, The Piazza is definitely going to be the place to be this summer!
Last year’s Block Party lineups were very impressive, featuring up-and-coming acts like Atlas Genius, Alt-J, American Authors, and Capital Cities. Crowds were also treated to old favorites like Metric, Cold War Kids, and Panic! At the Disco. With such a stellar set of artists, one may have wondered how Radio 104.5 planned to top it with this year’s selection. But once again, they’ve managed to outdo themselves. This year’s Radio 104.5 Summer Block Parties will feature the likes of Phantogram, Chvrches, Bleachers, Grouplove, and more!
Each week is guaranteed to be an amazing show. As we wait for more acts to be added to the lineup, two shows stand out as must attend events. The first Block Party of the summer will feature Phantogram and Chvrches. Both of these artists put on a great show. We had the pleasure of seeing Phantogram at this year’s SXSW, and Chvrches the year before. The female led groups are totally different in presentation and style, but both manage to captivate the crowd in a way that leaves you wanting for more each time you see them live.
Another stand out show from this year’s stacked set of lineups is the August 2nd show featuring Bleachers. The Jack Antonoff-led band is brand new, performing for the first time live at SXSW just two weeks ago. Their debut single, “I Wanna Get Better,” has attracted ton of buzz. A video for the single directed by Antonoff’s gilfriend Lena Dunham was just released, and the album is expected sometime this spring. This is definitely a band that you will want to pay attention to. If their performance at SXSW was any indication of what’s to come, they will definitely “get better.”
Never been to a Radio 104.5 Block Party? Don’t worry. Here’s everything you need to know. The events fall on Saturdays, and go from 3:45pm – 7pm. The station will release a schedule closer to the date, so stay tuned to their Facebook and Twitter accounts. Everything goes down at The Piazza at Schmidt’s in NoLibs. The events are all ages and open to everyone – all you have to do is show up. But remember, these events are extremely popular, so you’ll definitely want to arrive early to secure a good spot.
