In a surprise move that’s surely got Wolfmother fans rejoicing, the Aussie band revealed a brand new, unexpected album via their Facebook page today. New Crown, a more punked out affair from the group, still holds much of the vintage rock Wolfmother is known and loved for, and can be streamed or purchased through their Bandcamp account.
Considering the happenings with Wolfmother in the past few years, this new album is definitely unforeseen. The original lineup split in the years following their hit debut, and just a few days following the release of their sophomore LP in 2010, Cosmic Egg, additional members left, and a new lineup was formed.
The new Wolfmother continued on until April 2013, when band founder and lead singer Andrew Stockdale announced he was retiring the group’s name and going solo. A few months later, Stockdale released his own fittingly named Keep Moving.
A mere 10 weeks later, the band announced they were reforming and did some touring over the summer. And so new music seemed imminent, but potentially unlikely, with the group’s back and forth stability.
Today’s news confirms Wolfmother is back with a vengeance, however, especially with such a bold release. Take a listen to the driven new sounds of the band, below:
