Conor Oberst @ Union Transfer 5/21

Bright Eyes’ Conor Oberst will be embarking on a solo US tour this spring, with a stop at Union Transfer on May 21st. The tour is in support of his newest album, Upside Down Mountain, due for release on May 20th, just one day before the Philly stop. Upside Down Mountain will be released by Nonesuch Records, who will also be releasing a limited edition 7-inch single for Record Store Day. The single will feature the already released album track “Hundreds of Ways” along with a B-side track “Fast Friends.”

The last time we heard from Oberst was in 2011 with the Bright Eyes album The People’s Key, the band’s 8th studio release. His most recent solo offering was 2009’s Outer South. But this upcoming album will be a bit different in sound, described as a country-inspired album. Recording the album in Nashville, Conor Oberst got a little help from Father John Misty producer Jonathan Wilson. The album also features vocals from First Aid Kit, the Swedish folk duo comprised of sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg.

There is no word yet on who will be opening for Oberst when he performs at Union Transfer this May. However, Dawes had previously been announced as the opening band as well as Oberst’s backing band for the extent of the tour, so we can only hope that they will show up in Philly as well.
