Electric Picnic Announces 2014 Lineup Including Portishead, OutKast and Beck

It’s quickly becoming one of the most popular Irish music festivals and this week, Electric Picnic announced its 2014 lineup. Held at Stradbally Hall in Stradbally, County Laois, Ireland, it’s been around for eleven years and has grown into a weekend-long fest.

As is usually the case with festival lineup announcements, the leaders of Electric Picnic say more are still to be announced. This year’s edition of Electric Picnic will take place on August 29-31 at Stradbally Hall in Stradbally, Ireland. Besides eclectic music acts, the festival offers a lounge, a silent disco, a comedy tent and a 24-hour cinema. Tickets are on sale now, and you can find ticket information here. Initial sales for festival tickets will cost fans nearly 200 euro (roughly $275) if they’ve never been to a “picnic” before, but closer to 150 euro (roughly $207) if they can prove they’ve been to multiple festivals.

The festival started as a one-day event in 2004, but a year later, had to go to a full weekend lineup because of its massive success. Now described as “Ireland’s version of Glastonbury” and having won the award of Best Medium-Sized European Festival, Electric Picnic attracts more than 30,000 fans each year. Known for bringing names like Kraftwerk, The Stooges and Sonic Youth to Stradbally Hall, the festival also hosted The Arcade Fire, before the band became practically a household name. Last year’s lineup included Fatboy Slim, My Bloody Valentine, Arctic Monkeys, Robert Plant and Wu-Tang Clan. And the special guests aren’t limited to musicians; human rights activists and artists have visited the fest as well, ready to champion causes and make the weekend into a display of all different kinds of fine arts.

Stay tuned for more information on possible additions to the Electric Picnic 2014 lineup.
