It’s a music release that’s been 16 years in the making: Veruca Salt is coming out with new music. The 90’s rock band announced its reunion about a year ago, and later last year told fans that new tracks were in the works. Now, something concrete is coming out of that news.
Veruca Salt says new tracks “The Museum of Broken Relationships” and “It’s Holy” are coming out on 10″ on April 19–also known as “Record Store Day,” promotional event happening this spring that aims to get more customers into the checkout lines of indie vinyl stores across the nation. The best part for fans of old-school Veruca Salt is that this incarnation of the band includes all four original members: Louise Post, Nina Gordon, Jim Shapiro and Steve Lack, who haven’t made music together since 1998 when Gordon left to pursue a solo career. On the band’s Facebook page, they claim that “hatchets are buried and axes exhumed.”
It’s been a rough road for the band, who formed in Chicago in 1993, toured with Hole and put out hit songs like “Seether” and “Volcano Girls.” After Gordon’s departure in 1998, Veruca Salt went through a rotating line of at least 10 replacements in various band slots, with the only real constant being Post’s influence. In 2012, Veruca Salt declared themselves on hiatus, but a year later, the original set announced they were back together again.
It’s tough to know what to expect from the grunge-era rockers and fans will still have to wait a month to find out. But it’s hard to argue with such monumental former success, and getting the original members of the band back together is usually a good sign.
