Turns out inciting a riot, even in the name of musical enjoyment for all, gets the police pretty riled up. Tyler, The Creator has been arrested at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport after encouraging fans to break through a gate at his SXSW performance on Thursday.
Tyler’s no stranger to controversy. The Odd Future leader has long received fire for homophobic, misogynistic, violent, or just flat out disgusting lyrics – in all fairness, you can see where the critics are coming from, Tyler’s lyrics are less than PG. Tyler, obviously, doesn’t care.
He may have to take notice this time though. Trouble started on Thursday during Tyler’s show at SXSW. The venue quickly hit capacity, and many excluded fans were left at the gates. At least, until Tyler allegedly encouraged them to push through them (apparently leading a chant of “PUSH, PUSH, PUSH”), which they did. Things nearly turned violent after the sound system was turned off in response, though it was eventually turned on again, allowing Tyler to finish his set.
Tyler faces up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine. His bond has been set at $3,500.
