Friendly Fires, an English band from Hertfordshire, England, has just released their first song since 2011, ‘Before Your Eyes’. Working with XL Recordings, the six year-old band released a universally appreciated album entitled Pala. Since then, the band has been rather quiet, so fans are welcoming them back into the music realm.
The Asphodells, Andrew Weatherall and Timothy J FairPlay, joined with the members of Friendly Fire to create this single. The band’s frontman, Ed Macfarlane, made it clear that this song would be nothing like their last album. Electronica roots and impressively “psycedicic”, as Macfarlane noted at the Open’er Festival in Poland, “Before Your Eyes” is a complete eight minutes of cutting-edge sound for the band.
In 2009, the band was nominated for the title of Best Breakthrough Award at The South Bank Show Awards. Shortly following that in 2010, Friendly Fires was nominated for both the Best British Group and the British Breakthrough Act. Their pop based album Pala was universally well-recieved, yet their musical journey has not been without trial. In 2011, their trumpet player died unexpectedly of cardiac arrest. Similarly, the lead singer of the trio has on going health concerns which could be responsible for their three year hibernation. All the same, Friendly Fires is back with unequaled talent.
