Johnny Marr Shows ‘Up in the Air’ Due to Broken Hand

English guitarist and singer, Johnny Marr recently broke his hand. He’s in a cast, now, waiting for his hand to recover. This is an incredibly unsettling injury for someone who has made a living off of playing guitar and singing all his life. Read more for more details.

Johnny Marr is a new solo artist, but he’s been around the music scene for a while. He was a lead guitarist for The Smiths and also played guitar for Modest Mouse for a while. He released his solo album, The Messenger, in 2013, which showcased his musical evolution through decades in the buisiness. He has been praised by New Musical Express (NME) with their Godlike Genius award, and they are probably right. Marr has proven his mastery of the craft time and time again. Unfortunately, even being a Godlike Genius doesn’t make a man invincible.

Marr’s hand was broken in a fall while he was out jogging in London earlier this month. He landed on it and crushed it enough that he had to get it fixed up in a cast. Let’s just hope his hand heals soon so he can continue with his ever-improving career. His future shows are dependent on his recovery and Marr is trying to think positive, but clearly a little worried.

The plan is to do the Leeds Brudenell shows on March 24 and 25 and then the dates I have in South America as long as I can play the guitar when the plaster comes off. Usually that would be after six weeks but I’m hoping it will be OK, it’s a bit up in the air at this point. I may have to start drinking heavily.

Marr is set to play Lollapalooza in Brazil, Argentina and Chile as well as the New Orleans Jazz Festival. Hopefully his hand will heal in good time. It usually takes about 6 weeks to heal and then 2 weeks to rehabilitate the weakened hand. If he doesn’t heal soon, we may all have to start drinking heavily.
