SXSW 2014: Banks Official Showcase

Haven is the right place for a credentialed person to catch some of SXSW’s best up and coming showcasing artists like Banks. The crowd is friendly, the drinks are fairly priced and the long lines outside are telltale signs that what awaits inside must be worthwhile.

Inside Haven, electronic soul songstress Banks delivers just that. On stage, she is sweet as can be. Her voice is just high enough to boost morale. And don’t forget her dance moves– the girl jumps and prances like no other. Ever her tiny bounces bring positive energy to the stage, electrifying her performance with every passing song and energizing the packed audience into a gentle vibrating dance party.

It is said that she modestly began her music career as a teen teaching herself how to play songs with only a toy keyboard in hand. She has progressed so far from those days, having released her explosively popular EP London last year. Her music is rather undefinable, as it spans everything from hip hop and R&B influences to heavy electro and pop. It provides a refreshing eclectic perspective that today’s music scene ultimately thirsts for. Her raw approach live is just as captivating.

Banks continues to leap like a sprite, bouncing up and down and all around the stage. Her ability to pounce is commendable – that energy feeds directly into the crowd, and people continually bob and sway. The electrifying performance is short but sweet. This indie popster draws in the full room just long enough to spur elation and anticipation for what has yet to debut at SXSW.
