You don’t have to be a CSI detective to conclude that the New York dance-punk band The Rapture have called it quits. The first clue came in a recent press release by the Red Bull Music Academy as part of the William Onyeabor tribute concert, where they listed frontman Luke Jenner as “formerly of The Rapture.” When asked about the bands status, Jonathan Galkin of DFA Records dropped the second clue telling self-titled:
“I kept thinking it might blow over, but that might not be the case. Feel free to go to press with this headline: ’Did the Rapture Break Up and Not Tell Anyone?’”
Since 1999 The Rapture have released four albums, their latest being 2011’s In the Grace of Your Love. As pioneers of the post-punk revival genre, The Rapture is known for mixing in acid house, electronica and even disco which appeared on 2001’s EP Out Of The Races And Onto The Tracks. 2003’s Echoes gave them underground stardom, and is widely thought of as one of the best albums of the decade. To help rejuvenate New York City’s dance punk scene, The Rapture shared the stage with such artists as Daft Punk, the Sex Pistols and have collaborated with the likes of Danger Mouse, Timbaland, and Justin Timberlake. The band even took a funkier approach on the 2006, Pieces of People We Love.
Many of their songs have been featured in popular movies and video games such as a scene from the film Superbad, EA sport’s Madden 2007, Need for Speed:ProStreet, and the soundtrack for Grand Theft Auto IV which is bundled with the video game of the same name.
