TobyMac is a Christian recording artist, music producer, hip-hop/pop artist, singer-songwriter, author, and one of the first and best-known Christian rappers. He has produced five solo albums: Momentum (2001), Welcome to Diverse City (2004), Portable Sounds (2007), Tonight (2010) and Eye on It (2012). His latest album, Eye on It, made Billboard’s Top 200 chart reaching spot No. 1, which made him the third Christian artist to have a No. 1 spot on the chart.
Throughout his career, he has sold over 10 million albums. TobyMac has produced six No. 1 hits that were featured on contemporary hit radio stations, including “Gone,” “Made to Love,” and “Lose My Soul.” Five singles have gone to No. 1 on Billboard’s Christian Songs chart. He tied with Christian rock band Third Day for artist with most No. 1 spots on the chart. In 2008, he released a live CD+DVD combo titled, Alive and Transported, which received the Grammy Award for Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album in 2009. He also received a Grammy for his latest album, Eye on It, for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album at the 2013 Grammy Awards.
Aside from music, TobyMac has written several books, including his most recent “City on Our Knees,” which is about how Christians past and present have set aside differences, come together in unity, and stepped forward in action and prayer. He is also the president of the record label Gotee Records. TobyMac helped establish Camp Electric located near Nashville, Tennessee, for young musicians who want to have pop and rock skills. TobyMac’s website states, “Toby has worked hard to inspire his audience with words of conviction, hope, empowerment and the redemption found in his faith in God.”
