Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O and Vampire Weekend lead singer Ezra Koenig added a classy touch to the Academy Awards with a live performance of “The Moon Song,” from Spike Jonze’s hit movie “Her.” The live performance featured Karen O on soft vocals and Koenig strumming the accompanying acoustic guitar.
With the pair seated at the top of the stage’s steps, they painted quite the pretty picture. Karen O looked luminous in a bright red, floor-length gown and high heels casually kicked off beside her. Koenig looked sharp in a casual jacket, slacks and bowtie, with red socks to match his co-star’s ensemble. Throughout the pair’s 1:30 performance, a gigantic blue moon slowly rose over them on the backdrop, creating a nursery rhyme-like complement to the lullaby.
“Her” was nominated for five Academy Awards this year and took away the award for Best Writing-Original Screenplay. Amid the glitz, glamour and gaffes that seem to always follow the Oscar program, Koenig and Karen O’s subtle onstage performance was a refreshing change of pace.
