Merrill Garbus, the powerhouse that is tUnE-yArDs, is celebrating her birthday today with the announcement of a release date for her highly anticipated follow-up to 2011’s w h o k i l l. Due out May 6, Nikki Nack already has a teaser “Megamix,” featuring bits of all the new songs, which we’ve got for you, below.
Garbus has been out of the spotlight for almost a year now, following the whirlwind that came with the success of w h o k i l l, an LP that ranked high on mxdwn’s Best Of lists in 2011. Featuring such video greats as “Bizness” and “Gangsta,” the album was an explosive hit that had Garbus madly touring the world for a while.
After spending some time in Haiti last year, she revealed she’d begun work on the new album, which held the title Sink-O at the time. Now it’s got its final name, Nikki Nack, and for the teaser Garbus created for fans, she posted the following online today:
I’ve put together a mash-up of a lot of the songs from the album, so you can get a tiny taste. We really can’t wait to play this music for you. Thanks for all your support and patience while we cooked this chicken!
