Band of Skulls @ Union Transfer 4/26

This April join Band of Skulls when they take over the Union Transfer stage! The band will begin a set of US tour dates with a stop at Austin’s SXSW. They’ll head out to Europe and arrive here in Philly on April 26th. Band of Skulls are touring in support of their newest album, Himalyan, which is due to be released on March 31st. You can preview the album on YouTube with a short teaser video.

The band, originally called Fleeing New York, formed in 2004. They would change their name to Band of Skulls in 2008. Their debut album Baby Darling Doll Face Honey was released in 2009. The “Track I Know What I Am” brought the band a bit of recognition due to it’s selection as an iTunes Single of the Week and it being featured on the show Friday Night Lights. The band’s Friends EP was the next release. It dropped in March of 2010. Their second studio album would come later in 2012. And the trio has been hard at work ever since. Band member Russell Marsden says of the writing process, “This album feels like a coming of age record for the band because of the confidence in it. We really know our own sound now.” He says, “On your second record you’re doubling your back catalogue, which is a bit stressful. Whereas on your third, you’re adding to your canon of work and they all start to interact and reference each other.” Check out the recent single, “Asleep at the Wheel,” for a taste of what Band of Skulls have in store with their newest album.

Supporting Band of Skulls on April 26th is Sacco. Sacco consists of childhood friends John Fredericks and Andy Breihan. The two played in various bands of the years, but are now stepping out on their own. They say, “We wanted to make something that sounded and felt like home.” Having relocated to New York from southern California, those sounds of home will transport you to the beach. Check out Sacco when they open for Band of Skulls this April!
