Tim Lambesis, singer for As I Lay Dying, has just confirmed every metal-condemning parents’ worst fear. He pleaded guilty to attempting to hire a hitman directed at his wife after months of trials and questioning. Thankfully his now ex-wife is alive and well, but he will face up to nine years in prison and have to pay a $10,000 fine.
Lambesis was arrested on May 7th of 2013 under the suspicion that he solicited a hitman for his then-wife, Meggan. In the beginning of the trial, he and his lawyers plead not-guilty. However, this plea changed due to several issues that came up during the trial, including the use of steroids during the period of time that Lambesis was seeking a hitman. He was likely using these drugs to help him with his bodybuilding. Steroids have an extreme affect on all aspects of the body and it’s not surprising that Lambesis was deeply unbalanced during this time. His erratic behavior and drug use was part of the reason the court initially set his bail at $3 million. However, they lowered bail to $2 million after a court review and he was released on bail in June of 2013. Even though Lambesis got out on bail, his As I Lay Dying band mates decided to cancel their tour with Killswitch Engage.
In the trial, it was revealed that Lambesis wrote his ex-wife, Meggan a letter claiming that he was no longer in love with her. This came after years of extra-marital affairs. Around the time that Lambesis wrote the letter, he sought out a personal investigator and furnished $1,000 in cash as well as directions on how to carry out his wife’s murder. The personal investigator testified in court along with his personal trainer who had information on Lambesis’ intentions. After all of the details surfaced, Lambesis plead guilty. He’ll face up to nine years in prison and will owe $10,000 worth of fines. Now that it’s all over, hopefully the As I Lay Dying singer will try to be a little less metal.
