Electronic music project Flume was created by Harley Streten, an Australian electronic music instrumentalist, producer and DJ. He began creating music at about the age of 13, with a basic CD that was packaged in a box of cereal. Streten was discovered and signed in 2011 with the Australian record company Future Classic.
Flume’s self-titled debut album was released in 2012. The album included collaborations with vocal artists George Maple, Moon Holiday, Jezzabell Doran, Chet Faker, and New York rapper Shirt. The album reached No. 1 on Australian iTunes charts. It hit No. 2 on the ARIA Albums Chart, which followed One Direction’s No.1 spot with Take Me Home. When it later reached spot No. 1, it was the first electronic album to achieve such a feat since 2 by Sneaky Sound System. In 2012, Flume signed with Mom + Pop Music and announced the North American release of his debut album.
His single “Holdin’ On” from his self-titled debut, was featured top 50 on ARIA Singles Chart, hitting spot No. 17. This was his highest placement for a single. “Holdin’ On” has over 5 million views on YouTube, and was No. 4 on Triple J Hottest 100 in 2012. His single was the highest charting Australian song. He won 4 ARIA Awards in 2013.
