LISTEN: Mayhem Return With New Single “Psywar”

The infamous black metal band is back with some new material. Their latest song, “Psywar”, leads the way.

2014 sees the 30th anniversary of Mayhem, possibly the single most notorious band in the history of black metal. Following up 2007’s critically acclaimed ‘Ordo Ad Chao’ , the band is to release a new as-yet-untitled new album later this year. The new album is heralded by a new track, titled “Psywar”.

Formed in 1984 in Oslo Norway, Mayhem is long regarded as one of the pioneers of the Norwegian black metal scene. However, the band is also highly controversial due to its violent stage performance. The 1991 suicide of vocalist Per Yngve Ohlin (“Dead”) and the 1993 murder of guitarist Øystein Aarseth (“Euronymous”) by former member Varg Vikernes (“Count Grishnackh”) also contribute to the band’s notoriety.

Current members of the band include bassist Necrobutcher, drummer Hellhammer, vocalist Attila Csihar, and guitarist Teloch.
