Artists’ Pay for Radio Play Rally & Concert to Feature David Byrne, Mike Mills, Marilyn Carino and More

Musicians rally to  demand congressional action on payment for radio play of performers’ tunes. The event will involve a number of performances by high-profile acts.

Shockingly, the United States is the only democratic country in the world where artists don’t get paid for radio airplay. More outrageously, not only do US artists/musicians receive nothing, but they’re also blocked from receiving royalties collected on their behalf all over the world. In order “to remedy this scandalous situation”, Artists’ Pay for Radio Play Rally and Concert gathers speakers and musicians alike “to raise awareness of and support for a terrestrial radio performance royalty for U.S. artists and musicians.”

This event will features speakers, music, videos, and networking opportunities. Artists who will perform in this event include: David Byrne, Mike Mills (REM), Marilyn Carino, John McCrea (CAKE) Marc Ribot, Tift Merritt, Jason Moran (via video) and Jennifer Charles (Elysian Fields). Speakers will include Wendy Oxenhorn (Exec. Director, Jazz Foundation of America) and Chris Ruen (author of “Freeloading: How Our Insatiable Hunger for Free Content Starves Creativity”) and Rosanne Cash (by video).

This event will be hold at Le Poisson Rouge, NY on Tuesday February 25th 6-9 pm. It is an 18+ event with free admission; RSVP through the venue’s site.
